Overview of the Filofax Metropol Personal Organiser in Red

I’m not sure what possessed me to get the Metropol as I was pretty happy with the Saffiano. I think the bright red colour was calling me when I was staring at the Filofax cabinet in Kinokuniya (Malaysia). Not to mention that it has two pen loops, which I thought was pretty cool.

The Metropol (personal size) is made out of smooth PU material, which means it’s not real leather although it may look and feel like leather. According to the Filofax UK site, it comes in Black and Red, and those were the only two colours I saw at Kinokuniya. It measures approximately 190mm in height and 158mm in width. The ring mechanism has a diameter of 23mm.

It comes with the usual refills and a black “today” ruler, which I can’t seem to find and have no clue where I’ve chucked it. Mine had the 2014 calendar and I didn’t mind it too much because I have spare 2015 inserts available. There were very limited 2015 Filofaxes the last time I checked and I have given up hope on Kinokuniya restocking their inventory.

There are 6 credit card slots on the front cover and a large vertical mesh pocket on the back. And two pen loops! But the loop on the front seems bigger than the one on the back because I can’t fit fatter pens through. The overall material feels quite stiff and it took a few days of “training” to get it to lie flat. I also had trouble tucking things into the card slots due to the stiffness.

I was using the Metropol for a couple of weeks before switching back to the Saffiano. It didn’t really work out as a main daily planner for me but I know many of you out there love your Metropol. I am probably one of the few who wasn’t completely enamoured by it.

Overall, I still think it is a good organiser and I will probably find another use for it in the future. The red is gorgeous and it is a very well made planner. I would probably love it more if I can find a way to soften it. So do let me know if you have some tips.

Do you use a Metropol or are you considering getting one? Drop in and share in the comments below.

I do agree that the Metropol material is much harder than the Saffiano. There is definitely a difference between the two. I love my mini Metropol as a wallet but I dont think I would want a personal size one to use as a main planner. It still doesn’t lie completely flat and do get worried about getting scratches on the PU material but overall it is a good organiser.

I’ve only read rave reviews of the Metropol, which is one the reasons why I bought it. I think it will soften over time if it’s handled a lot but I still prefer the Saffiano, which is kinda soft and lies flat straight out of the box. It’s still a really nice planner and I do love the bright red colour.

That color is fantastic! The Metropol isn’t even available on the US Filofax site (as I’m sure I would have clicked on it when I was searching over the weekend, on the color alone!). It does look very stiff, though – which sucks for card slots. I’ve had wallets like that, where it’s nice to touch and seems well made, but just too tight to get much use out of.

I thought it would be available in US as it seems to be a “regular” Filofax. As much as I like the red, I’m not a fan of the stiffness. I prefer something that feels slightly squishy. And the Metropol will never lie completely flat even after training. Once you close it, it will go back to its original state so you’ll need to re-train it. It’s still a nice organiser despite some of these issues. I think it will hold up very well with daily use.

I love, love the Red Metropol and would really love to buy one but I can’t find it any where. If any one consider selling theirs I would love to. I’m on youtube under Pat Stewart.

Hi Pat, Thanks for stopping by. Unfortunately I don’t have the red Metropol at this point as I’ve gifted it to a close friend. You can probably find it on eBay though. Good luck with the search!
