I’m not sure what possessed me to get the Metropol as I was pretty happy with the Saffiano. I think the bright red colour was calling me when I was staring at the Filofax cabinet in Kinokuniya (Malaysia). Not to mention that it has two pen loops, which I thought was pretty cool.
The Metropol (personal size) is made out of smooth PU material, which means it’s not real leather although it may look and feel like leather. According to the Filofax UK site, it comes in Black and Red, and those were the only two colours I saw at Kinokuniya. It measures approximately 190mm in height and 158mm in width. The ring mechanism has a diameter of 23mm.
It comes with the usual refills and a black “today” ruler, which I can’t seem to find and have no clue where I’ve chucked it. Mine had the 2014 calendar and I didn’t mind it too much because I have spare 2015 inserts available. There were very limited 2015 Filofaxes the last time I checked and I have given up hope on Kinokuniya restocking their inventory.
There are 6 credit card slots on the front cover and a large vertical mesh pocket on the back. And two pen loops! But the loop on the front seems bigger than the one on the back because I can’t fit fatter pens through. The overall material feels quite stiff and it took a few days of “training” to get it to lie flat. I also had trouble tucking things into the card slots due to the stiffness.
I was using the Metropol for a couple of weeks before switching back to the Saffiano. It didn’t really work out as a main daily planner for me but I know many of you out there love your Metropol. I am probably one of the few who wasn’t completely enamoured by it.
Overall, I still think it is a good organiser and I will probably find another use for it in the future. The red is gorgeous and it is a very well made planner. I would probably love it more if I can find a way to soften it. So do let me know if you have some tips.
