Friday Feature is a series where I feature people who inspire me, or products that I find interesting. Today, we have the delightful Anna from Mrs Brimbles telling us a little bit about herself. I had so much fun reading her answers! Enjoy!
Hi everyone, my name is Anna although most people know me online as Mrs Brimbles which is a nickname which, well, kinda stuck. So I am probably mostly known for my YouTube channel where I talk about all things Filofax related on Filofax Fridays as well as for my Etsy shop where I sell printable inserts and my art dashboards for ring bound planners.
Lyn asked if she could interview me for her blog and of course I said yes! I love her blog and am one of her newest fans. She very kindly sent me some questions and here I am with my answers.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself, what do you like to do when you’re not planning?
I am very much a home bunny! I love spending time at home with Mr B and my fur babies just pottering around the house. I like to cook although anyone that watches my vlogs will know that is very often experimental! I also love to read and to paint and draw. We are very lucky to live in a lovely part of Cambridgeshire, England so we often go for walks too.
2. What is your favourite planner and why?
Well had you have asked me this in the early part of last year I would have said hands down my A5 black Finsbury, then in theearly Summer I decided to go back to the personal size and bought the nude original which I loved. A lovely friend then surprised me at the end of October with a beautiful gift of the Filofax personal Malden in Ochre. This planner has been on my coverted list for the longest time and now I have one it really hasn’t disappointed me. I love it dearly! I now say that this is my favourite but it could just be a current favourite although I doubt it. What do I love about it? Well the colour is just beautiful and classic. The leather is soft and wrinkly and very tactile. The inside has lots of pockets. Overall it is just a beautiful well made planner which is timeless and can go with anything.
3. What is your favourite planner accessory or stationery?
I used to struggle to find what I wanted and thought I needed everything! I have been using a Filofax since 2002 but now so many other people are too that there are more and more products available to help planner people which is great although for people just starting out this can be bad! A often get questions from people just starting out in planning who are overwhelmed by all the things available to us. At the end of the day you don’t need lots of stickers and decorative bits and bobs to start out you just need your planner and your pen. I advise people to just start using it and plan and then add to it as you go along your journey, you don’t need everything to start with. It is your planner and you put in it or decorate it how you like and how it works for you. Some weeks I decorate my pages, other weeks I leave them plain, it just depends on whether I fancy it or how much I have going on that week.
I am not going to lie, I do love my stationery but I don’t always use it! I am a terrible sticker hoarder although I am trying to stop that and just get on and use stuff! My favourite I think has to be to do list pads, I am forever jotting things down and when they get mostly completed or things crossed off I like to get rid of them. i like starting a fresh and writing things down so I always have lots of them around the place!
My other favourite accessory has to be my inserts. I first designed my inserts because I couldn’t find any that worked for me so I designed my own. As I said there are loads of people out there now selling these so I am sure you will find ones to suit you too!
4. What inspired you to start a blog?
My blog started just with art / art journalling and journals and then has also incorporated planning as I realised that there was such a thing as a planning community and it wasn’t just me on my own with my planner. I have to confess I didn’t actually realise there were other people who were into planners. I was so glad that I found out there was a whole load of us planner nerds out there and I thought why not share my planner on my blog too.
Originally I started the blog to document my return to college. I have taken various art courses over the years and in September 2012 I decided to go back to college and thought a blog would be a fun way to document what I was doing. Unfortunately in the November I developed pneumonia and had a collapsed lung and was rushed to hospital at deaths door. The blog took a break and whilst recovering in bed I watched a lot of YouTube. I recovered but I still wasn’t working and I decided that I needed something to do to so in April 2013 I started my YouTube channel and revived the blog again and I am very pleased to say I haven’t looked back!!
Now on my blog I tend to share anything book related on a Monday. Tuesdays are all about art and keeping a journal. Wednesdays tend to be supplier spotlights or unboxings. Fridays are always Filofax Fridays and then other days are open for anything I might fancy sharing!
5. Where would you like to go on a holiday?
I love going to the beach particularly Norfolk or Cornwall which are our regular holiday destinations. We went to Hawaii on our honeymoon and we would love to go back again. I also really want to go to San Francisco, Yosemite, Maine, Utah, Yellowstone, Norway / Northern lights. My parents also live in Italy so I can go their on holiday whenever I like lol!
6. What are your favourite stores (online or brick & mortar) to shop in?
Online I have a few and they are:
Linkys Dream – Linkys offers a monthly goodie box full of beautiful stationery items. I love it because she tailors it to suit your tastes!
Just Keep Pinning – for her MT washi tape and project life page markers.
Made by Elissa – for cute planning stickers.
Pretty Paper Filo – for cute bits and bobs!
The Idea Owl – you can shop for goodies and add to your package on instagram!
Of course I do love a good old browse and a cheeky purchase from Paperchase too!
7. If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?
Loveroflife. Ha ha I cheated by deleting the spaces! I honestly don’t know if I could in one word as I am quite a complex person, OK lets pin it down to one word… Whimsical!
I hope you have enjoyed learning a bit more about me and if you are interested in seeing more of me, here is where you can find me…
Thank you for asking me over Lyn, it was really fun answering your questions and good luck with your new blogging venture!
